Overcoming a Period of Harmful Health Habits

Many people see self-care and personal health management as a means of retaining our good health, and that’s true, but it can also work to resolve issues or problems that may have been weighing us down in the past, too. While none of us can be essentially “reset,” it’s true that we can make tremendous improvements to the point where the past issues we have gone through seem irrelevant - granted that we’re lucky enough to do so.

For instance, many that have suffered from addiction issues in the past have been able to make a full recovery with the right support, come out of the other side, and begin retaining their health more easily.

Overcoming a period of harmful health habits does take time, investment, and commitment, but it can make a tremendous difference to your confidence, a positive reflection of your identity, and a sense of worthiness once we take care of such an outcome. In this post, I’ll discuss how and why this is, and what changes you may wish to make to aid in this.

Fix Your Posture

Bad habits tend to lead to bad lifestyle choices, and sometimes, this can lead to sedentary activity, or failing to train ourselves in a health-focused manner that would otherwise improve our posture. If you find that you slouch a lot, or it feels as though you suffer from a lack of core strength, this could be a problem. Resolving your posture means strengthening your core via exercises, stretches, and remembering to keep your chest out and your shoulders back. If you do this, over time you tend to feel much better about yourself, and should thrive properly as a result.

Focus on Stress-Busting Techniques

Stress-busting techniques such as learning how to pace your breathing, how to meditation and how to engage in fun exercises like yoga can make a tremendous difference in how you feel and how confident you remain throughout the day. Dealing with stress of this nature can also help you avoid feeling pressured into taking up your old habits, or falling into the path that leads there. This might also mean going out into nature more often in order to help you overcome the constraints of walking from home, or simply dealing with your stress through expressing yourself via instruments, journaling, or speaking to those you trust.

Consider Teeth Whitening

Smoking, eating bad foods, drinking alcohol, or overconsumption of coffee can all lead to a dental environment that could use some work. The yellowing of our teeth can be natural, but teeth whitening is also easy, and can help repair some of the aesthetic hit you may have taken. This, combined with the proper care from a responsible cosmetic dentist, can ensure a worthwhile outcome, and a prevention of continuing or harmful dental health issues.

In the long run, you’re sure to overcome a period of harmful health habits. All it takes is a commitment to yourself, and remember that today is a new day.
