Strength and Fitness Training Outside of the Gym

Gyms are great, but they aren’t your only option for strength and fitness training. Fun ways to exercise away from the gym are all around you, from playing a sport to passive exercises through the things you like to do.

Get into Nature

When you exercise outside, you get the added benefit of time in nature. Some ideas for outdoor exercise are hiking, walking, yard work, rock climbing, and anything else that gets you moving. Fitness experts like Gary Pascual suggest getting your training in on the water while enjoying kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding.

Take Up a Sport

Sports are a great way to exercise and hang out with friends at the same time. Soccer, basketball, and tennis are excellent for your cardio days. You’ll work on speed, endurance, and all sorts of strength training in these sports. Even the slower-paced games, like golf and baseball, still require you to work out, so find what you enjoy.

Running and Walking

Running is one of the most popular fitness activities with an estimated 660 million people worldwide who regularly run for fun and exercise. Running is a great way to train your entire body, and it works well as a part of any training program. There are also big benefits for your heart, like reducing the chances of heart disease and other cardiac issues.

Not a runner? You still get most of the benefits of running when you walk instead.

Find Active Hobbies

Many hobbies are more active than you might think. For instance, the constant kneeling, standing, and bending when gardening is great for your back and leg muscles. If you love video games, you can get exercise with games such as Just Dance, Ring Fit, and even VR gaming.

Remember that Off Days are Important

Finally, it is essential that you find ways to calm down and let your muscles ease. Try gentle yoga, meditate, or simply enjoy a spa day. Off days are important because your muscles need time to repair themselves after your workout.
