We mostly focus on your health, but let’s take a quick break from that and talk about your children’s health - something that likely causes you stress! You know it’s important to keep your children feeling happy and healthy during the pandemic, so this is likely to be at the forefront of your mind. But, let’s be real. You’re a busy mom and don’t want to have to worry, right? Here are a few top tips to help.

Pay Attention to their Hygiene

Children’s hygiene can slip when they’ve got nowhere to go and no reason to get out of bed. Don’t let lockdowns, isolation, or quarantine be an excuse for your children to start slacking when it comes to washing regularly or brushing their teeth twice a day. In fact, Dr Alistair from Mona Vale Dental suggests getting your teens to floss at least every other day (we have to start small, right?) and really making a concerted effort to look after their dental hygiene could make a big difference to their health and well-being. Make sure you’re checking in with your kids every morning and every evening before bed to make sure they’re sticking to positive hygiene habits. This is especially important for younger children who may not have a grasp on hygiene’s importance in life.

Ask them about their Mental Health

Check in with your children from time to time and ask them how they are doing mentally. The pandemic has been particularly tough on everybody’s mental health, both young and old. So, if your children are struggling to come to terms with the uncertainty caused by these unprecedented times, then they could probably do with the support of their busy mom. Spare the necessary time for your children to properly sit down and talk to them about how they are feeling. It’s possible that they’re missing confiding in the friends that they can no longer meet up with due to social distancing restrictions, so be there for them instead to talk about whatever it is that’s on their mind. If your child suffers from anxiety or depression, then helping them with their mental health is going to be especially important at a time like this.

Ensure They’re Remaining Fit and Active

Spending so much time indoors isn’t good for children, especially if it leads them to spend countless hours sitting in front of a TV screen or playing mindless video games that don’t do them any educational good. Get your kids outside and remaining fit and active ready for some post-pandemic exercise. While we know you’re a busy mom, but you must make time to have a bit of fun outdoors with them. How about learning and playing a new game together? Our friends over in England play a game called rounders that is fun for the whole family. So, you could have a family game of rounders, or maybe even do a session of yoga together as a group to calm everybody down after a busy day.

Remaining fit and active is key not just for your kids but for you too, so if you’re able to make this sort of time available, then it’ll benefit both you and your children in the long run. Times are tough, but the feel-good factor from exercise can help you get through them.
