Fueling Your Day with Protein-Packed Snacks
Eating the right snacks throughout the day can help keep you energized and productive. Protein-packed snacks are ideal for a mid-day pick-me-up, as they provide essential amino acids that help build muscle, support your metabolism, and provide endless energy. Let’s take a look at some easy and delicious protein-packed snacks that will fuel your day.
Nuts
Nuts are an excellent source of healthy fats, fiber, and protein. They also contain vitamins and minerals like magnesium, potassium, zinc, and vitamin E, which are great for your overall health. Nuts are incredibly versatile, too; they make a great addition to salads or yogurt bowls or eat them by the handful as a snack. A few of my favorites include almonds, walnuts, cashews, pistachios, hazelnuts, and pecans.
Hummus and Veggies
Hummus is one of my favorite go-to snacks because it’s so easy to make. Combine chickpeas (also known as garbanzo beans) with tahini (sesame seed paste), garlic powder, lemon juice & olive oil in a food processor until creamy. Serve with crunchy veggies like carrots or celery for an extra dose of nutrients. Plus, hummus is high in protein—just one cup contains about 15 grams.
Greek Yogurt and Fruit
Greek yogurt is full of probiotics —live bacteria that help keep your gut healthy —and it’s also packed with protein (17g per cup!). If you steer clear of dairy, try a non-dairy yogurt option. Top plain Greek yogurt with fresh fruit like blueberries or strawberries for an antioxidant boost plus added sweetness without all the added sugar of pre-flavored yogurts. You can even mix in some chia seeds or granola for extra crunch and texture.
Smoothies
Smoothies are a great way to get your daily dose of fruits and vegetables while also getting a big protein boost. You can use your favorite nut milk as the base, then add some spinach or kale for vitamins A and K and fiber. Finally, top it off with frozen fruit, like a handful of blueberries. Add some Greek yogurt or a scoop of your favorite plant-based powder blend for extra protein.
