Here’s How To Beat Your Workout Anxiety
Workout anxiety is something that most of us feel from time to time. It may be when we are starting a new class, or upping our reps. It can even happen when we haven’t exercised for a while, and are trying to make it a habit again. The good news is that no matter what the reason for your workout anxiety there are plenty of effective ways to manage it. Read on to find out what they are.
Try group fitness
The first way you can combat workout anxiety is to go to a group fitness class. The great thing about exercising with others in a class is that you are all in it together and this helps you connect and build relationships with people very easily. They can also be a lot of fun so you’re less focused on your anxiety and more focused on the class.
Some even take place in community centres and gums where regular members meet up after class and go for a cup of coffee. This can help you feel more at ease, as you will get to know the people in the group more, and won’t feel like they are a bunch of strangers.
You can even take a friend along to a class with you to make it easier the first time. Alternatively, if you are not a class person why not recruit a friend to go for a walk, run, or work out in the gym?
Avoid peak gym hours
While we are on the subject of gyms, if you have workout anxiety it's best to avoid them at peak times. This is because they can get very busy, and make your workout a lot more stressful. There is also likely to be more people recording their workouts for their special media channels at peak times, so if you go off-peak you can avoid all that.
Unforyaly some people can’t go to the gym at any other time than peak, because their jobs, school, or family responsibilities demand it. If this is the case for you, there are some tactics you can use to help reduce your anxiety including using over-ear headphones and a cap which can help you feel more protected when working out. Having some good content to keep you distracted can help too, as can munching on CBD edibles before you arrive. After all, they are known to provide relaxation with no mind-altering effects, meaning they are ideal for workouts.
Start small
Another smart strategy to help you beat workout anxiety is not to go in on your first sessions with all guns blazing. Now I know you want to work hard and you want to see results from what you do. But not easing yourself into a new exercise type or routine is nearly always a recipe for disaster. Indeed, not only will it make you super anxious that you are doing enough and doing it right, but you can risk injury as well. All of which will stop you from exercising constantly and building a habit of moving your body! Instead, start small, and work your way up your nerves and your body will thank you for it.
